FOUNDED IN 1947
Schoonover Plumbing & Heating, Inc. was founded in 1947 by George Schoonover Sr, and was originally named Canton Plumbing, Heating, and Farm Supply Company. The company first made its home on Sullivan Street in Canton, PA until a fire forced them to begin their search for a new permanent location. In 1956, Schoonover moved into the newly constructed showroom and office on Main Street in Canton, PA. In 1996, Schoonover added a second floor to the Main Street building and expanded the showroom and stock to accommodate the company’s continued growth. This building is still in use today as Schoonover’s home office, storefront, and logistics hub.
Schoonover began as a residential company, taking advantage of the shift from the outhouse to indoor plumbing. There was a strong demand for a good plumber. By the 1960’s, the firm had shifted gears toward mostly commercial work. During this time, Schoonover was awarded many school and hospital construction projects. In the mid 1970’s, the company renewed its residential and light commercial product offering and has been a regional leader in plumbing, heating, and electrical work with residential, commercial, and industrial customers since that time.
George Schoonover Jr. and Thomas Schoonover, sons of George Schoonover Sr., purchased the business as equal partners in 1972. The partners operated the business together until George Jr retired in 2014 and Thomas Schoonover retired in 2023. Today, the business is owned and operated by its third generation, Eric Schoonover and George Schoonover, III. Schoonover Plumbing and Heating, Inc celebrated their 75th year of business in 2022.
In 2018, Schoonover opened a showroom and logistics office in Williamsport, PA on Washington Blvd to better serve the company’s growing customer base in Lycoming County. With a growing workforce of over 30 employees living in four counties, Schoonover is positioned as a premier employer of skilled tradesmen and is committed to continuing education to guarantee that their workforce is second-to-none in the industry.
